Home Buying Tip

Paying for a qualified home inspection could save you thousands of dollars in future repairs.  This is a small investment to make for the biggest purchase of your life.  Call me today and I can recommend an experienced, independent home inspector.

Home Selling Tip

Sprucing up  your home with a fresh coat of paint is a good idea.  However, the smell of paint can raise suspicion with potential buyers.  Add 3 drops of real vanilla extract to each gallon of paint used.  This will neutralize 90% of the paint smell.  Check with your paint manufacturer.

Safety Sense

More than 500 fires are caused each year by gas grills, and about 200 people are injured from gas grill fires and explosions.  Another 400 Americans go to the emergency room due to carbon monoxide poisoning caused by gas grills.

Barbecue Safety
bullet

Before using a gas grill, check the connection between the propane tank and the fuel line.  Make sure the venturi tubes - where the air and gas mix - are not blocked.

bullet

Do not overfill the propane tank.

bullet

Do not wear loose clothing while cooking at a barbecue.

bullet

Be careful when using lighter fluid.  Do not add fluid to an already lit fire because the flame can flashback up into the container and explode.

bullet

Keep all matches and lighters away from children.  Teach your children to report any loose matches or lights to an adult immediately.  Supervise children around outdoor grills.

bullet

Dispose of hot coals properly - douse them with plenty of water, and stir them to ensure the fire is out.  Never place them in plastic, paper or wooden containers.

bullet

Never grill/barbecue in enclosed areas - carbon monoxide is produced and can kill you.

bullet

Make sure everyone knows to stop, drop and roll in case a piece of clothing does catch fire.  Call 911 or your local emergency number if a burn warrants serious medical attention.

Grilling is one of the great past times of summer.  Nobody wants to loose the house or garage to a fire or end up in the emergency room because they were doing something foolish with the grill.  Happy grilling!
